What is a permanent total disability?

Every year, millions of employees suffer a workplace or work-related injury or illness. In New Jersey, the exclusive remedy for handling the accident is workers’ compensation. Under state law, the injured employee may seek compensation for the injury, including payment for medical expenses, medical care, and wage compensation. The amount an injured employee receives as wage compensation is based on their doctor’s determination of disability.

An employee who is found to have a permanent total disability receives two-thirds of their pre-injury weekly wage. A worker has a permanent total disability if the work-related accident’s injury renders the person unable to work in any form of employment ever again. The employee may receive wage disability benefits for the remainder of their life.
